cbis to offer new internet and computing core certification in february

Burlington – The Center for Business and Industry Services (CBIS) will begin offering the Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC³) program in February.  The Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC³) program is the world's first validated, standards-based training and certification program for basic computing and Internet knowledge and skills.

Often it is assumed people already have basic computing skills because of increasing exposure to computers; however, the fact remains - exposure to computers does not equal understanding.  IC³ - the Internet and Computing Core Certification - is designed to validate an individual's basic computer skills and Internet knowledge to promote success in school, work, and life.  The IC³ program enjoys worldwide recognition as the global standard for digital literacy and offers employers proof of employee skills and competence in today's demanding economic climate.

IC³ offers employers proof of employee skills and competence in today's demanding economic climate. As more and more businesses encourage employees and job candidates to become computer certified, individuals and businesses alike can take advantage of this certification. IC³ Certified individuals can perform tasks that normally would be performed by an IT department representative (install software, troubleshoot hardware, etc.). This reduces the cost associated with computer down time and expensive IT consultations for businesses.  It also provides an excellent foundation for CompTIA's A+ and Network+ and the Microsoft Office Specialist program.

The program is divided into three modules; each one focuses on a distinct area and ensures individual will have a solid foundation of skills.

Prime candidates for the IC³ digital literacy program include:

.           Junior High and High school students

.           GED Students

.           Continuing Education students

.           Job Corps or other vocational participants

.           Workforce members seeking professional development

.           Teachers

.           Employers looking to validate skills

.           Everyone seeking to gain a working knowledge of computers and internet

CBIS is an official testing site for IC³ and Microsoft examinations and will also offer classes and certification at SCC’s West Burlington and Keokuk campuses as well as CBIS facility in RiverPark Place.
