MORE TROLLEY DRIVERS NEEDED -

Step Aboard!

The SCC Alumni Association (SCCAA) and alumni Michael and Joanne Pratt came to a mutually wonderful agreement recently: the Pratts needed a home for their former Old Towne Touring Trolley that formerly rolled through the historic streets of Fort Madison and the SCCAA needed a trolley!

This substantial partial donation could not have come at a better time! For several years, the SCCAA Board had been contemplating plans to build a trolley that could be used to ferry alumni and other patrons attending fairs and festivals at SCC's campuses and centers and in communities throughout southeast Iowa, west central Illinois and northeast Missouri. The Pratts' December 2012 move to Florida presented an interesting opportunity - SCC and the CCFSA Board would provide a loving, covered home for their beloved trolley (once part of the Mark Twain historic tours in Hannibal, MO) and SCCAA could start putting their marketing message on wheels. It was a match made in heaven!

The SCCAA will partner with area festival and parade organizers to transport patrons around event venues while promoting higher education programming at Southeastern Community College. After a new set of decals and tires, the trolley will be ready for business later this spring.

Individuals with a driver's license to haul a 16-passenger+ vehicle are eligible to apply to drive the SCC trolley. (Alum Gary McPherson is the first to sign up! Thanks, Gary!) Festivals and fairs at which the trolley will be available to participate will be posted on this site in the coming months. Interested persons may contact Becky Rump at 319-208-5065 or at brump@scciowa.edu

Donors & Scholarship Recipients Mingle

The next SCC Foundation donor/scholarship reception is scheduled from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, November 17, 2013. While all recipients are required to attend or send a delegat, it is a wonderful opportunity for recipients and donors to meet and to share sentiments over great food.

The event held on September 27, 2012 drew over 230 scholarship recipients and their donors to t the SCC Loren Walker Arena in West Burlington. It was the first such recognition event  since 2001. With a glittering ceiling tent comprised of red and black mylar streamers and festive black and red table decorations, the "gym" was transformed into a thing of beauty...in as much as that is possible. Location aside, the event proved to be a wonderful opportunity for students to express their gratitude in person and for SCC staff to put faces with names.

SCC Foundation chair, Terri Dowell, gave a special presentation to 2012 donors, Lawrence and Marilyn Matteson. Their early 2012 gift of 12 renewable scholarships of up to $2,000 each to career & technical students started the year off with a bang. Matteson recipients and their families filled five tables at the reception.

Particular mention was made of the donors who had traveled the farthest, Seattle residents Dr. and Mrs. Richard Dimond, who had established two scholarships for his parents, Andrew and Vera Dimond. One of the longest running funds was established in 1989 by long-term Burlington residents, Irvin and Ruth Stein; their full-tuition scholarships for nursing students fill an important need. Mildred Tenglin, now in her 90's, was in attendance to honor her late husband andn welding professional, Gunnar Tenglin. She established a Welding scholarship in his memory, and also a GED testing fee assistance fund in memory of her brother, Ray Johnson. The donors of the newest endowed scholarship, Moudy and Sharon Scholl Nabulsi, were also in attendance. Moudy serves as both a college trustee and member of the SCC Foundation. All donors and recipients in attendance were honored. Click here for a current donor list.

Agency Road, West Burlington, IA 52655), JDC's Birdies for Charity staff will invoice you next July 2013! And, 100% of the paid pledge dollars come back to the SCCAA!
