Set up SCC email on your smartphone or tablet

What is my email address?
In most cases, your SCC email address will be your 1st initial followed by middle initial followed by your last name.

Example: If your name is James David Smith, your USER NAME and email address will be jdsmith@scciowa.edu

How do I access my SCC email account?
Open up your Internet Browser and enter email.scciowa.edu as the Web address (do not use www before the address)

In the "User Name" field enter your email address which is your first initial followed by middle initial followed by your last name and @scciowa.edu.

Example: If your name is James David Smith, your USER NAME and email address will be jdsmith@scciowa.edu In the "Password" field enter the last six digits of your social security number

Click on "Log On" and you should now be able to access your email.

For safety, after you are finished, log off and close the browser.

What is my email address?

In most cases your SCC email address will be your 1st initial followed by your last name. All new employees should complete an email account form that can picked up at the Human Resources (HR) department. The HR department will then forward the form to the Information Technology Services (ITS) department for set up purposes.

Example: If your name is James Smith, your email address will be jsmith@scciowa.edu

How do I access my SCC email account?
From your SCC Computer:

Log on to your SCC computer using your username and password. Your user name should be your first initial followed by your last name. Use the password you printed on the email account form that you completed and turned into the Human Resources Department.

* Please note it is a good security practice to change your password every 30 days. You can change your password from your SCC computer by clicking on Ctrl + Alt + Del at the same time. This will bring up the option to change your password.

Then click on the "Microsoft Outlook" icon that is on your desktop. If you need help organizing your email please contact the help desk by dialing extension 5087.

From the Internet:

Open up your Internet Browser and enter "email.scciowa.edu" as the Web address. (Do not use the quotes or the "www" before the address) Or you can click on the link below: email.scciowa.edu

You will then get a security alert, in a gray box, asking if you want to proceed. Click yes and this will bring up a small window to enter your login information.

The small window that appears in your browser will ask for username and password or username, password and domain. If the window asks for username and password only then follow the direction under section A below. If the window asks for the username, password, and domain then follow the directions under section B.

Section A

  • In the "User Name" field enter your email address which is your 1st initial followed by middle initial followed by your last name and SCC's domain.
  • Example: If your name is James Smith, your USER NAME and email address will be jsmith@scciowa.edu
  • In the "Password" field enter your SCC password.
  • Click on "OK" and you should now be able to access your email.
  • After you are done, be sure to log out (bottom of left hand scroll bar) and close the browser

Section B

  • In the "User Name" field enter your user name which is your 1st initial followed by middle initial followed by your last name.
  • Example: If your name is James Smith, your USER NAME will be jsmith
  • Enter your SCC password
  • In the "Domain" field enter "scciowa.edu". (Don't use the "".)
  • Click on "OK" and you should now be able to access your email.

Set up SCC email on your smartphone or tablet

Basic instructions on how to setup a standalone email client on a computer or smartphone.

Computers
IMAP (preferred) connection: imap.scciowa.edu with SSL and a port of: 993
POP3 connection: pop3.scciowa.edu with SSL and a port of: 995
SMTP connection: smtp.scciowa.edu with TLS and a port of: 587

All of these require Authentication.
SCC recommends the use of Mozilla Thunderbird for use as an email client for home computers. Its automatic setup will automatically configure itself properly for use with SCC's email system.

If you use POP3 (IMAP is recommended for ease of use) then you will need to go into the advanced settings and select to leave a copy of the message on the server and delete from server when deleted from deleted items. We will be posting videos of how to setup different email clients as soon as we have them finished. This will show step by step how to set them up the recommended way.

Smart Phones/Tablets
If available use a connection called Exchange or Corporate. If neither of those are available you may have to use IMAP and SMTP, see the instructions for Computers.
The email server is: email.scciowa.edu (some phones require an “/exchange” at the end. If it cannot find the server then use email.scciowa.edu/exchange.)
SSL Required: Yes
Domain if asked: SCC
Username: This can be different from phone to phone. It is usually  your login ID, but may require your full email address (jedoe@scciowa.edu)
Password: (current email password)
