English as a Second Language
SCC offers English as a Second Language (ESL) classes in two ways. ESL can be taken as a college credit class or it can be taken as a non-credit class through Adult Literacy Program.

Credit Course Description: The course is designed to provide a supplemental language program for students whose native language is not English and who may not read, write or speak English with sufficient proficiency to enroll in a full-time academic program. Instruction includes: comprehension, reading and vocabulary development; English writing skills with emphasis in pattern practice, spelling, and pronunciation and study skills. Students shall be placed in this course upon meeting minimum placement standards. Prerequisite: TOEFL score of 450 or instructor approval.
