SCC to Offer L. W. Matteson Endowed Scholarship for Career and Technical Students – May 1 Deadline

Southeastern Community College is pleased to offer the new L. W. Matteson Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship was established to assist students pursuing degrees leading to careers in career & technical programs or engineering.

The L. W. Matteson Endowed scholarship was established in 2012 for the purposes of students enrolled in Southeastern Community College entering into one of the College’s Career & Technical programs, including Agriculture, Construction, Drafting, Electronics, Industrial Maintenance Technology (including InTech), and Welding, as well as Pre-Engineering.

Up to 12 scholarships will be awarded for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Preference will be given to graduating seniors from Fort Madison High School, although students of all ages, current SCC students and students from all high schools are eligible for consideration. Applicants and recipients must not have had a criminal record or have failed a drug test to be eligible for this scholarship.

The award may be used for tuition, fees and required books at Southeastern Community College.  Approximately one-half of the award may be used in the first semester of registration and the other half in the second semester of registration, provided the student has demonstrated satisfactory progress during the first semester and not been arrested or failed a drug test. Preference will be given to students earning GPAs of 2.0 to 3.5 with mid-range financial need. Through required scholarship application responses and reference letters, an eligible applicant must be able to demonstrate his/her motivation to succeed. L.W. Matteson scholarship recipients will be given preference for second year funding.

The deadline to apply is 4:30 p.m. May 1.
