SCC & NOTRE DAME FOUNDATIONS SPONSOR FINANCIAL FITNESS SEMINARS MAY 1

West Burlington, IA – On Wednesday, May 1, Southeastern Community College Foundation and Notre Dame Foundation will co-sponsor three seminars on planned giving and estate planning at the Pzazz! Event Center in Burlington, Iowa. Dubbed Financial Fitness II, this event is the second such events co-sponsored by the two local foundations in as many years. Attorney, Johni Hays, vice president of Thompson & Associates of Johnston, Iowa, is the featured presenter. Ms. Hays is a national presence in the field of retirement and estate planning. She is the author of the book Essentials of Annuities and co-author of The Tools and Techniques of Charitable Planning. She lectures around the country, inspiring people to take charge of their financial destiny.

The morning session is geared for professional advisors, including attorneys, accountants, insurance agents, trust officers and professional financial advisors. The 8:00 – 11:30 a.m. session entitled Planned Giving & Ethics Seminar for Professional Advisors provides an opportunity for attorneys to earn 1.0 CLE Ethics credit, while insurance agents can earn 1.0 CEU ethics credit or 3.0 general CEU credits. This session will cover the latest developments in charitable gift planning, ethical issues in gift planning and charitable planning strategies with tax-heavy assets. It is preceded  at 7:30 a.m. by a light breakfast provided by sponsor Great River Health Systems and will be followed by lunch at 11:30 a.m. co-sponsored by Two Rivers. The afternoon session is geared for the public. From 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., participants will learn the “7 Secrets to Enhancing & Protecting Your Wealth.” This presentation is intended to help people stop worrying about finances and start loving their golden years. Ms. Hays will cover the importance of a will, estate and gift taxes, tax traps, how to deal with estate issues related to children from a previous marriage, how to determine income needs if a spouse dies, and how to increase personal income via philanthropy. The afternoon session will include a question and answer panel of experts from around the region, including Marvin Thomson of Two Rivers Investment Services, Ben Heckart of IEA Wealth Management, Ann Menke of Ann M. Menke CPA, Mike Dick of CPA Associates, and attorneys David Beckman and Tim Roberts. The afternoon session also includes lunch sponsored by Two Rivers that begins at 11:30 a.m. and a 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. social hour with piano entertainment by Jerry Parks, prize drawings and hors d’oeuvres provided by Great River Health Systems. The evening session begins at 5:00 p.m. and is a repeat of the afternoon presentation on the “7 Secrets to Enhancing & Protecting Your Wealth.” The question and answer session will include a slightly smaller panel of local experts. Evening session participants are also invited to come to the preceding 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. social hour that includes piano entertainment, hors d’oeuvres and prize drawings.
