SCC Named Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs Magazine

Southeastern Community College has been named a Military Friendly School for 2011 by G.I. Jobs magazine. This honor places SCC in the top 15% of all colleges, universities and trade schools nationwide. It is the College's second year in a row to make the list. SCC will be included in the 2011 G.I. Jobs Guide to Military Friendly Schools, a publication distributed to active and former military personnel later this year.

SCC's TRIO Program Receives $367K to Serve First Generation and Low Income Students

Southeastern Community College was awarded $367,000 to fund its TRIO Student Support Services program annually over the next five years. The funds will be shared with Carl Sandburg College, CSC, in Illinois. The award is a re-funding of the two colleges' existing programs.

SCC Upward Bound Student Kyra Seay Named Dell Scholar

Kyra Seay was recently named a 2010 Dell Scholar. Seay is a senior at Keokuk High School and concurrently enrolled at SCC through its Upward Bound program. The Dell Scholars program awards 300 scholarships annually nationwide. Seay is one of just four students from the state of Iowa named to this year's list.

SCC Foundation Presents "Behind the Scenes at the Miss America Pageant"

Great River Entertainment/Pzazz! will sponsor a brunch for up to 80 people at 12 Noon on Sunday, May 16, 2010 featuring Olivia Myers Baker, Miss Iowa 2008 and the 2009 Miss America 2nd Runner Up. Ms. Myers Baker will show videos and photos and share what really happens during the weeks leading up to and during the actual Miss America Pageant. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under. All proceeds will fund scholarships at Southeastern Community College.

SCC to Dedicate Art Studio to the Late Jane Thode Walsh on Friday, April 30

Southeastern Community College will dedicate its newly-renovated art studio in honor of the late Jane Thode Walsh. The ceremony will be held at in Art Studio A on SCC's West Burlington campus at 4:30 on Friday, April 30, 2010. A new darkroom will also be dedicated to former SCC student Brandon Fields. The event is free and open to the public.
