West Burlington, IA -Southeastern Community College has tapped Peyton Deterding to be its new athletic director.
Deterding comes to SCC with over a decade of experience in intercollegiate athletics. Previous positions include stints at University of Illinois – Springfield, Illinois State University, and Northern Illinois University.
An Iowa native, Deterding is eager to return to his roots. Stepping in to lead a growing program like Blackhawk Athletics was a bonus.
“I have a great regard and enthusiasm for SCC and the Blackhawk Athletic department,” Deterding stated at his welcoming assembly. “When I've spoken to coaches, the phrase ‘next level opportunity’ kept coming up. Now that I'm here, I feel the same way.”
SCC President Dr. Michael Ash said that given his experience leading large multi-sport athletic departments, Deterding brings with him the skill set and values needed to continue expanding Blackhawk athletics and support student-athletes.
"Peyton has an impressive history working with student-athletes, coaches, and staff with a mission that is in line with our program," explained Ash. "I'll say it time and again. Everything we do here is about the students. Peyton's focus is on student well-being, academics, and athletics. We're happy to welcome him."
Deterding started official duties remotely on September 1 and joined the college in person on September 7.
Deterding replaces former Blackhawk athletic director Tyler Gaston, who departed in July.
