Distinguished Alumni Transfer Scholarships
Two $1,000 (non-renewable) scholarships are presented annually at graduation, one per campus graduation. Graduating SCC students can be either transferring to a 4-year institution. GPA and financial need are considered.
Dr. Edward C. Stone STEM Scholarship
This scholarship was created by Dr. Edward C. Stone because he had received a continuation scholarship upon graduating from BJC in 1956. Dr. Stone served from 1991-2001 as Director of the Jet Propulsion Lab and continues to serve as the Morrisroe Professor of Physics at CalTech. Since 1972 he has led the Voyageur mission teams to the outer limits of the solar system and he has been project lead for all the Pathfinder missions to Mars. He is currently developing the world's largest optical telescope. He was named the first SCC Distinguished Alumnus in 1997.
To be considered for this non-renewable scholarship, graduating SCC students must be transferring to a 4-year institution in pursuit of a STEM degree. The individual who is selected will have the highest grade point in their STEM program. In a tie breaker situation, students who have completed all college course work at SCC will receive preference.
This award varies in amount.
Note: Following the National Science Foundation (NSF) definition, a program in the health occupations/medical sciences is not generally considered as a STEM career.
