Every person deserves a pathway to success. Pathways for Academic Career and Employment (PACE) is here to help you map out your goals and most importantly, create a plan to reach them.

What can PACE do for me?

  • Offer personalized guidance in the steps needed to achieve all of your educational goals, even HSED.
  • One-on-one advising. We help you explore careers to assist you in finding the right career fit for you with a livable wage.
  • Determine eligibility for funding sources available for specialized training for in-demand industries.
  • Job retention services post-completion of an educational program.
  • Connect you to community resources that help with housing, transportation, utilities, food, and other barriers to success.

What is PACE?

PACE provides a number of services for students in need. These include:

  • PACE: Pathways for Academic Career Employment
  • GAP Tuition Assistance
  • SNAP Employment and Training
  • Ticket to Work
  • Second Chance Pell

How do I qualify for PACE?

If you answer YES to one of the following, you might be eligible for PACE services:

    • Are you currently unemployed?
    • Were you recently laid off from a job due to a plant closure or position elimination?
    • Do you need to go back to school to earn your high school diploma or HSED?
    • Are you considered low-income by federal government standards

How does PACE work?

Each student is assigned a Pathway Navigator once accepted into PACE. Pathway Navigators work with you to determine which programs are the best fit for you. This ensures success within your Pathway for Academic Career and Employment.

SNAP Employment and Training

SNAP Employment and Training is a voluntary program for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients, who are looking to achieve a purposeful career with a livable wage. The program offers SNAP recipients customized support services to enable eligible students to acquire effective academic and employment training to secure gainful, quality, in-state employment.

How do I qualify for SNAP Employment and Training?

To participate, individuals must:

  • Be a SNAP recipient
  • Age 18 or older
  • Not receiving FIP/PROMISE JOBS services
  • Reside in an Employment and Training Service Area (Henry, Lee, Des Moines, and parts of Louisa counties)
  • Be able and ready to work within one year of training completion 
    Interested, and approved for, in one of the following approved training programs:
    • PACE program: Pathways to Academic Careers and Employment
    • GAP Tuition Assistance program

Services Provided

  • Education and training for nationally recognized credentials in high demand careers
  • Clothing, uniforms, and materials necessary for training, education, job search and employment
  • Job search assistance
  • Job retention services
  • Tuition assistance
  • Personal supports such as transportation assistance.
