Engineering degrees start at SCC!

Introducing the SCC-UI Engineering Transfer Degree.

University of Iowa College of Engineering

SCC is proud to partner with University of Iowa College of Engineering. This partnership enables students to complete their first three years of college along with all their pre-engineering coursework right here at SCC. Students who complete the program can enter into select engineering programs at the University of Iowa as a junior.

Coursework in this program focuses on how apply problem-solving skills in real world settings. Core courses include math, science, and computer programming.

This program prepares students to pursue bachelor's degrees in a variety of engineering fields, including mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, and aerospace engineering.

At the University of Iowa you will be able to earn you Bachelors of Science in Engineering (BSE) in: Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.

Partnership program basics

Students participating in the program can take certain UI Engineering classes each summer to assist in the completion of core engineering coursework before transferring:

  • Statics (ENGR: 2110)
  • Thermodynamics (ENGR: 2130)
  • Electrical Circuits (ENGR: 2120)

Students will also have the support of student services in the College of Engineering, including
advising, to assist in the smooth transition between institutions.

Upon completion of their AAS, AS, or AA degree from SCC, students will have completed their College of Engineering General Education requirements at the University of Iowa.

Transfer admission criteria

Admissions to the College of Engineering at the University of Iowa requires students to have a cumulative transfer GPA of a 2.50 or higher and to complete the equivalent to the following courses with a B- or higher:

  • MATH:1550 Engineering Mathematics I: Single Variable Calculus
  • Either CHEM:1110 Principles of Chemistry I or PHYS:1611 Introductory Physics I

Overall grade-point average and additional coursework in math, science, and
engineering are also considered.

Transfer courses completed with a grade below a C- are not accepted by the College of Engineering and will not satisfy degree requirements.
